This video is from The Colbert Report and is satirizing astronauts. He talks about NASA's 'great' finds and exaggerates on everything that he says. When he is talking about NASA, he makes it sound like that he is being serious, but in reality, he is being sarcastic to the highest degree. I chose this satire because it shows good techniques of a satire, such as sarcasm, exaggeration, parody, and may others. This satire is a good example because it can represent verisimilitude, or the quality of realness in something.

ReplyDeleteAfter exploring the topic shared, NASA was displayed to have 'incredible life-changing discoveries' towards human existence. Obviously, NASA was being ridiculed for their pointless role in society.
2. How can you tell that this is a satire?
This is a satire in that whenever NASA was being spoken about, everything mentioned was overly expressed, and gave off the vibe of under-excitement.

Sarcasm is most evident, considering the fact that most of the relations he drew to real life examples were unrealistic and seemed as if the 'findings' would not do 'jack squat' for us.

Yes, some would come to the realization that this broadcast is in fact, not real. Others however, would question if this man is being real or not.
